Philip K. Dick Award Reading Challenge!
The 2019 P.K. Dick awards nominees have been announced, and it's time to get reading! Join our Reading Challenge on Goodreads, and see if you can have all six read before April 19th - then join us on Friday evening, April 19th, at Norwescon 42 to hear the attending authors (or their representatives) read selections from their works and find out who has won this year's award!
It's a (Stuffing) Party!
Want to get your convention experience started early? Looking for a little pre-func activity? Well then, join us at the DoubleTree Hotel on Sunday, April 14th at 1:00 p.m. for the Norwescon Stuffing Party. We need some volunteers to help us prepare the swag bags for the convention members. Working at the stuffing party counts towards hours worked at the con.
If you or your organization has fliers or other material that you wish to include in the packets, please send an email to publications@norwescon.org and ask for details.
Get Your Room While You Can!
Rooms for Norwescon 42 are filling up fast. Don't delay, make your reservation today! Norwescon is once again at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport which is offering a guest room rate of $132 per night for up to four (4) people. Rooms at the DoubleTree have a maximum occupancy of five (5) people, and there is a daily charge of $10 for the fifth person. You can guarantee a tower room reservation by paying a $40 per night upgrade fee. Note:This raises your per night rate to $172 per night before taxes.To ensure that you get the Norwescon contracted rates, reserve your room using this link. Please double-check the dates on your reservation! Remember, Norwescon 42 will be Thursday, April 18th through Sunday, April 21st, 2019.
If you need to cancel your reservation, please do so by February 2, 2019 to avoid forfeiting your deposit of one room night.
GOH Spotlight: Mary Robinette Kowal
Writer Guest of Honor, Mary Robinette Kowal, is the author of Shades of Milk and Honey (Tor, 2010) and Glamour in Glass (Tor, 2012). In 2008 she received the Campbell Award for Best New Writer, and in 2011, her short story "For Want of a Nail" won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story. Her work has been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards. Her stories appear in Asimov's Science Fiction, Clarkesworld, and several Year's Best anthologies. Mary, a professional puppeteer, also performs as a voice actor, recording fiction for authors such as Elizabeth Bear, Cory Doctorow and John Scalzi. Bring Your Donations to the February Meeting!
Charities wants your love! During the convention committee meeting on February 16th, Charities needs your donations for Northwest Harvest and local animal shelters. Bring items like shelf-stable food, baby products (diapers and wipes as an example), hygiene products (shampoo, body wash, menstrual products, et cetera), pet supplies (food, towels, toys, and so on), and spare change (pennies, couch stashes, that box under the mattress, the ash tray in your car full of coins) or cash to help both people and animals needing some assistance.
