Don't forget your towel!
Single Pattern Contest!
Grab your needle and thread and get ready for the Norwescon Single Pattern Contest! This year's pattern is Simplicity Pattern 8804: Women's and Men's Robe and Pants.
The object of this competition is to create a one-of- a-kind garment using this pattern. Some adjustments or changes to the pattern is allowed as long as the end product reflects the original pattern.
Judging will be based on:
- Best of Show (workmanship) - both in the garment and the accessory-based pattern. Best Use of Convention Theme - "Don't Forget Your Towel"
- Judges' Favorite
- People's Choice Award
No preregistration is required. Entries can be submitted at the judging session on Saturday (time and location TBA).
- Along with your entry, please provide a short description of your costume, its inspiration, and any special techniques or materials used.
- The People's Choice Award will be decided and all winners will be announced at the Show and Share on Saturday.
- Awards will be presented during the Masquerade half-time.
The patterns can be purchased from Simplicity at the link above, or at your local fabric store.
Show Your Love!
Charities wants your love! During the convention committee meeting on February 16th, the Norwescon Charities department needs your donations for Northwest Harvest and local animal shelters. Bring items like shelf-stable food, baby products (diapers and wipes as an example), hygiene products (shampoo, body wash, menstrual products, et cetera), pet supplies (food, towels, toys, and so on), and spare change (pennies, couch stashes, that box under the mattress, the ash tray in your car full of coins) or cash to help both people and animals needing some assistance.
Questions, comments, and concerns can be directed to charities@norwescon.org.
Norwescon is Looking For a Few Good Teens
Do you know a teen that would like to get involved with Norwescon? Do they want to help the convention be the best it can be? Well, Teen Runners is back and they're looking for teens to help out during the convention (and even join the convention committee). Help them build their leadership skills and don't forget that Norwescon is a registered 501(c)3! Your teen's time spent working with the Teen Runners or the convention committee could count toward community service projects that some schools and organizations require.
For more information, send an e-mail to teenrunners@norwescon.org or ask for any Teen Runner Lead at a ConCom meeting for details.
January Book Club!
Come join your fellow bibliophiles as we read another book by a local author (and frequent Norwescon panelist), Cat Rambo. While Cat Rambo is most widely known for her wonderful short stories, this novel, Beasts of Tabat, was nominated for a Nebula Award and a World Fantasy Award.
