News from Norwescon - July 2021

It's Cool to Volunteer!

Boy, is it hot around here lately. You know what's cool? Volunteering for Norwescon! We're about to start planning for next spring, so now's a great time to nail down your dream (volunteer) job. We can really use your help to bring our convention back to the fantastic, in-person convention we love. There are plenty of jobs available. If there's something you're interested in, please contact us! Currently, we're recruiting graphic designers, copy editors, web developers, and social media managers. Contact us at publications@norwescon.org if any of these jobs sound interesting to you!

Come to the Volunteer Picnic!

Norwescon's annual Volunteer Picnic is happening in person this year at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 29, at Steel Lake Park in Federal Way. The picnic isn't just for past volunteers, it's for future volunteers as well! Come meet the exec team, enjoy the weather (whatever it turns out to be), and have a low-key social afternoon in the open air with fellow Norwescon folks. Norwescon will be providing soda, juices, and single-serve chips and snacks (sorry, no burgers this year). We encourage everyone to bring a lunch and hang out for a while.

Norwescon Book Club Reads Piranesi

July's book club selection is Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, a 2021 Hugo Award nominee for best novel. This is Clarke's first novel published after the Hugo-winning Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2004). The discussion takes place online on Monday, July 19, at 7 p.m. You can find an event link in the book club group on Facebook at Norwescon's Bibliophiles

Norwescon Camping Trip

The Norwescon Camping Trip is back! Join us for a weekend of fresh air, lovely vistas, and food cooked on camp stoves. We have reserved a group camp site at Lake Pearrygin State Park, outside of Winthrop, for the weekend of August 20-22. To RSVP, or to just ask questions, email SunnyJim at sunnyjim@norwescon.org.
