Artist's Alley is in full swing and is shaping up to be even more of the place you need to visit during the con. From maille artisans and sculptures to illustrators and comic book artists, we will have it all. Quite a few of our artists are participating in the Art Show as well, so if you have any questions about how they do what they do just stop by and ask! This is the place you can learn a little about the art of making art and see everything up close and personal. How do you make chain maille? How do you start a digital painting? How do you layout a comic book page? How do you design metal sculpture? All your questions can be answered here.

You're Invited to a Party!
The Norwescon stuffing party will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at the DoubleTree Hotel Seattle Airport. The room will be on the daily meeting boards at the hotel entrances. Stuffing should be over by 4 p.m. at the latest.
Please join us for fun and games as we take pieces of paper, paperback books, buttons, and coupons and marry them together to form the packets that everybody receives at registration. The more people we have, the faster it will go. Be the first in your neighborhood to see what sort of goodies everyone will receive. Cop a button or two advertising the next big movie. We might even have the latest programming grids on the wall for your perusal.
Working at the stuffing party counts towards hours worked at the con. Norwescon volunteers receive perks like early seating at the Masquerade and are entered into drawings for many items donated by Norwescon dealers. The drawings take place early Sunday afternoon of the con.
Please note: People attending the stuffing party will have to pay for their own parking. Parking should be $8.
Want to include your own promotional items in the packets? Here's how.

Urban Fantasy: "Kickassitude" 2 pm Evergreen 3 & 4
One current definition of "urban fantasy" is "contemporary, urban setting with a female or male protagonist who usually ha a certain amount of 'kickassitude' combined with supernatural powers or connection. The narrative is often structured like a basic detective plot with a romantic relationship subplot. It's action-oriented and often has strong horrific elements balance with humor." How important is this element to a good urban fantasy? Who are the characters who kick ass, and who are the writers creating them?
Kat Richardson, Jack Skillingstead, M.H. (Maggie) Bonham, Jim Butcher
Not that we're saying it's going to change but, please confirm time, location, etc. when you arrive at the con.

As many of you are aware Norwescon presents an art auction on Sunday of the convention. It's actually two auctions in one; we not only auction the art that's been bid on during the convention, we also auction donated art, jewelry, and other fan-favorites to benefit our chosen charities. This year we are continuing to support Clarion West Writers Workshop and Northwest Harvest.
Something very special we wanted you to know about our charity auction this year; the family of our good friend and long time volunteer Audrey Penty have donated many of her most cherished pieces of art in her name. Audrey was an avid collector of art and the pieces that have been donated to this year auction are very special, most of which are framed and ready to hang. We have pieces from Michael Whelan, Rob Carlos, Jody Bergsma, John R. Gray III Monique Livingston and more.
The Norwescon Art and Charity Art Auction is a heck of a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to participate in....watch the bids fly and the humor soar, help support young writers become professionals, and help our community in these still-tough times.

At last year's Eastercon (British National SF Conven2on) an experiment was made with a live announcement of the Hugo nominees by the 2010 Hugo Administrator Vincent Docherty to a packed local audience, combined with live online coverage of the event.
This year, the experiment is been taken one step further, with the Hugo Nominees being co-announced at this year's Eastercon (Illustrious) and at Norwescon 34. The nominees will be announced jointly by the 2011 Hugo Administrator Vincent Docherty at Eastercon and by the chair of the 2011 Worldcon (Renovation) Patty Wells at Norwescon 34, with each taking it their turn to announce the nominees in a category, and with the whole event being covered live online. The event will take place on Sunday 24th April at 10pm UK Time)/2pm (Pacific).
Renovation is very grateful to Norwescon 34 for providing the opportunity to announce the nominees of science fiction's illustrious award in a presentation spanning East and West. Come and see if your favorite work or author will be a nominee, and find out the winners at Renovation in Reno, August 17-21 at the 69th annual Hugo Awards Ceremony.

More than just movies, this 120-minute extravaganza of entertainment will also include the filmmakers, who will regale you with terrifying tales of their productions. Be there, or be a regular right quadrilateral!
The Fandance Film Festival is the final phase of the "Let's Make a Movie!" workshop. The workshop walks participants through every step of making a movie, from conception to the premiere of the finished product. This year at Norwescon also marks the twelve-year anniversary of "Let's Make a Movie!"

This panel is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2001, in Evergreen 3 & 4. A membership is required to attend.
The art show staff has been working closely with Kinuko and her husband Mahlon on her attendance as this year's Artist Guest of Honor. Borsini-Burr gallery of Montara, California, who represents Kinuko's art and prints exclusively, graciously gave the Crafts permission to offer prints of her work in the convention Print Shop that the Crafts have specially prepared for Norwescon. A very limited number of these signed archival prints will be available for purchase. They include art that has appeared on the covers of many of Patricia A. McKillip's books and some of Kinuko's personal favorites. In addition to these prints, the Crafts are showing three amazing giclées on canvas. Signed and numbered limited editions of these for purchase will be made available by direct order from her gallery. And of course Kinuko will also be showing some original work as well as working sketches, all of which will also be offered to her fans. This will be an amazing opportunity to see and collect Kinuko Y. Craft's work and your art show team is excited to be able to present this stunning work to you.
The "Let's Make a Movie!" workshop's a mile-a-minute combination of workshop, improvisation, and technology, and for the past decade has been regularly producing short films from each and every workshop.
In the "Let's Make a Movie!" workshop, everybody joins in on a round-robin soup-to-nuts moviemaking experience. The workshop exposes the writhing entrails of the filmmaking process, to show -- through a hands-on step-by-step process -- to each and every participant that not only can they make a movie, but that they can make a fairly decent movie with a story and a structure, with practically no lead time or prep time.
If you want to review a few movies that have come about from this workshop, please check out "Con of the Dead," and "Manslugs!: the making of a sci-fi original" at http://www.guerrilla-productions.org/Downloads.html which are more horror/sci-fi in flavor.
The workshop heads include local low-budget filmmakers Edward Martin III ("The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath," "Flesh of my Flesh," etc.), Eric Morgret ("Strange Aeons: The Thing on the Doorstep"), Ryan K. Johnson ("Star Trek: The Pepsi Generation," "Flesh of my Flesh"), and Brian Oberquell (Pyro and effects specialist from Vancouver BC).
nwcMUSIC, the filk/geekmusic programming group at Norwescon, are pleased to announce our concert lineup for this year's Norwescon! We're proud to feature a wider range of geekmusic than ever before, with an entirely new concert night! We hope people will come out Thursday night and reward people willing to take a chance on a Thursday night!
We want to thank Heather Dale for coming all the way out from Ontario for us, and Electric Children and Andrew Ross for volunteering to play on Thursday. Plus we have some of your favourites back again, like last year's Norwescon newcomer, Death*Star, and local filk monsters Vixy & Tony. Check it:

We've added The Conventionist app to our online schedules this year. Attendees with an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or android device should 1) download 'The Conventionist' from the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace 2) visit (http://conventionist.com/getit) from their phone's browser. There is also a QR image in the pocket program that may be scanned in lieu of using your phone's browser.
Currently this application does not support Blackberry, Windows 7, or HTML 5. We have PDF versions of the schedule available from our event schedule page.
Even though the schedules are online please don't forget to look at your Program Book. The electronic versions and pocket program hold short descriptions this year. The full event descriptions are in the Program Book.
The official convention t-shirt is available for sale in the lobby from Offworld Designs. It features artwork by our Artist Guest of Honor, Kinuko Y. Craft. WallyPark has opened a new 1,800 car garage across the street from the Doubletree. They are running a grand opening special rate of $9.95 per day and have made 100 coupons available for Norwescon members which are good for 15% off at check out. That makes it $8.45/day! Just show your parking stub at the convention information desk while supplies last to pick up the coupon. You will need to show your Norwescon badge to use the coupone when you retrieve your car.
We continue to see developments in the Scheduled Gaming event plan. If you don't see something that you want to play listed on the Website today it may be there tomorrow. Stop by schduled gaming to sign up for a round or two and be entered into Sunday's prize drawing.
You can help make Norwescon happen, especially when you volunteer time to assist with making sure everything runs smoothly and tasks are completed. This doesn't just happen while the convention is taking place. It starts the day before the convention and continues until the Monday following the convention.
By volunteering you can earn cool prizes, share in some of the behind the scenes fun, and compete for great rewards! And don't forget that by volunteering your time, you also get some great food and privileges at the convention, and during the summer at the Volunteer Picnic too! Take on a task or two to help make Norwescon 34 that much better than it already is.
After you pick up your membership badge at registration why not stop by the Volunteer Lounge (Olympic 2) and take on a task and become eligible for rewards.
